Postpartum lateral incision and surgical wound cleaning

               【General operating procedures】

Mainly divided into two steps: side cut and routine cleaning of surgical wounds, side cut and cleaning and disinfection of surgically infected wounds

1. Routine cleaning of side cuts and surgical wounds

The parturient is advised to change the lochia pad frequently, and the side-cut parturient should sleep sideways to the opposite side of the wound to prevent lochia from contaminating the wound.

Prepare a clean water basin, warm water, and clean towels, and ask the parturient to clean the side incision wound 2-3 times a day.

If there is no special reaction (redness, swelling, heat, pain) to the abdominal surgical wound, it is not necessary to treat it.

2. Cleaning and disinfection of side cuts and surgically infected wounds

Side incision wounds can be flushed with 1:5000 potassium permanganate or 2‰ of Neogermide, 2-3 times a day. If there is mild redness and swelling on the abdominal surgical wound, 75% alcohol can be rubbed 2-3 times a day; if the wound is red, swollen, hot, or painful, remind the parturient to go to the hospital in time.

【Achieving Standards】

No infection, maternal lateral incision wound healed well in 3-5 days, surgical wound healed well in 5-7 days.

If there is a mild infection through cleaning and disinfection, the degree of infection will not increase.

【Precautions】

During the whole puerperium, help the parturient to take a bath. It is strictly forbidden to take a bath to avoid ascending infection.

Be careful not to prepare too concentrated potassium permanganate.

【Tools and Materials】

Water basin, 1:5000 potassium permanganate, 2‰ promethazine, cotton swabs, 75% alcohol.

【related information】

Women who give birth naturally start to take a bath one week after delivery, and women who have undergone cesarean section generally take a bath 10 days after delivery. They should use showers. Each shower should not be too long, the water temperature should not be too hot, and it is not advisable to take a bath on an empty stomach.

Lateral incisions and surgical wounds should not be prematurely and too much activity. Generally, a small amount of activity should be done after 3 days. When the wound does not feel pain after the stitches are removed, the postpartum body recovery exercises should be started.
